How to Get What you Really Want

Let’s talk about what you want.

No really, what you want.

Or what you really want.

Do you know what you really want?

Or have an idea of what would make your heart sing if given the chance?

We are in the midst of a New Age breakthrough.

So many of us are becoming aware, creating desires, and amassing fortunes while marrying our twin flame in a sea of shining, happy faces.

Or at least that is what we are hyped to believe.

And I want to say, there is nothing wrong with desiring whatever you desire.

But ask yourself, is this what I really want?

Or is it just something I picked up along the way thinking that this is what I want?

You know those types of wants.

Fortune Magazine wants: the Bentley, the huge Mansion, the perfect job, the perfect wife, perfect this, perfect that.

Everything in life is a breeze and life is so enjoyable and fun!

You know the drill, more or less what we are sold on the cover of make-the-life-of-your-dreams-self-help books?

When it comes down to it, are these things what you really want?

Have you found that you struggle to manifest these types of wants into your life?

Have you struggled to create the Bentley?

Or the Mansion?

Or the multi-platinum record?

High and Snoody Wants

These wants are the high road of success.

These wants are also someone else’s definition of success.

These wants are what we are preprogrammed to want since an early age.

But if we exercise a bit of imagination and creative free will, would we find we want these things, truly in our hearts, or would we want something else?

Do we manifest these wants with effortless flow and enjoyment, or do we find ourselves beating these ‘wants’ into our own heads?

Ceaselessly saying, ‘This is what I REALLY want! And I won’t give up til I convince myself that this is what I really want!’

You get the idea  :)

Let me illustrate with an example from my own experience.

The New Car

For the longest time I wanted a new car.

I wanted and wanted and wanted and wanted.

I visualized, I went for the test drive in my head, I put up a screen saver of the car of my dreams.

I saw it every time I woke up, and before I went to bed.

I even tried on different cars for size.

I tried Bentleys, VWs, Hondas, everything you could imagine to find that perfect fit.

But yet, I couldn’t figure out what I wanted.

I still didn’t have what I wanted!

I thought if I tried harder, I would get it.

So I visualized more, I sought more, I intended more.

Still nothing.

Then one day, I was driving my beat up Honda CRX to the auto parts store, thinking to myself this is the last time I’m ever fixing this piece of junk! I’ve just had it with all its oil leaks, problems, and break downs I couldn’t take it anymore.

I was asking one of their store reps for one of the many parts I needed to fix my car, and I was commenting on how hard it is to fix these things, and how much stress it was causing me.

And he looked at me and said, ‘Those cars are easy to fix, you can even do it yourself.’

That’s when it hit me.

That’s what I really wanted!

You see, what I really wanted was right in front of me the whole time.

Staring at me day in and day out waiting for me to fix it.

My Honda CRX.

That’s what I really wanted, but I just couldn’t see it.

I had to have someone else point it out to me so I could realize my desire, and get to work.

Which I honestly do love, this car is the car of my dreams.

It is what I really always had wanted.

And that’s when I realized it.

I had what I wanted right here in front of me.

But not exactly how I wanted it.

So, with the help of a few friends, I started learning how to fix my own Honda.

And let me tell you, what an empowering skill it is to learn how to fix your own car!

I no longer am terrified of looking under the hood to see if more fluid is leaking.

I’m no longer stricken with fear when I go for an oil change.

I just know that, with a little help, I can fix it.

And that confidence gives me strength and assuredness that, if I can fix my own car, I can do other things as well.

So while you may think you want a Bentley or a Mercedes, maybe you’re heart is really saying something else.

Think of the wants that flow easily into your life.

Think of the small things that help make our day beautiful and fun.

These are our wants.

These are our real wants.

These are the real things we are creating right now, in small almost seemingly obvious ways.

But until we notice them again, we’ll keep forgetting that we might want the things that we already have.
